“In the Desert

Held his heart in his hands,

“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”
― Stephen Crane, The Black Riders and Other Lines

“I would like to be the air that inhabits you for a moment only. I would like to be that unnoticed and that necessary.”
― Margaret Atwood

“Like a flame is real enough, isn't it, while it's burning?-even if there's a time it goes out?”
― Joyce Carol Oates, Foxfire: Confessions of a Girl Gang
