"So far it's odd and I don't understand the choices of any of the characters really. I find it hard to believe the women are muscling through their periods rather than using makeshift tampons or attaching bands of fabric from the front to the back of the dress for pads to go onto. I also don't understand why they would resort to hair as thread instead of taking the thread out of the fabric?" Jan 30, 2026 01:30AM

You are going to die....does this worry you?”

“He does something to me, that boy. Every time. It’s his only detriment. He steps on my heart. He makes me cry.”

“It’s sarcasm, Josh.”

“Sarcasm?”

“It’s from the Greek, sarkasmos. To bite the lips. It means that you aren’t really saying what you mean, but people will get your point. I invented it, Bartholomew named it.”

“Well, if the village idiot named it, I’m sure it’s a good thing.”

“There you go, you got it.”

“Got what?”

“Sarcasm.”

“No, I meant it.”

“Sure you did.”

“Is that sarcasm?”

“Irony, I think.”

“What’s the difference?”

“I haven’t the slightest idea.”

“So you’re being ironic now, right?”

“No, I really don’t know.”

“Maybe you should ask the idiot.”

“Now you’ve got it.”

“What?”

“Sarcasm.”
Christopher Moore, Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal

“I'd rather be partly great than entirely useless.”

Markus Zusak
“Hair the color of lemons,'" Rudy read. His fingers touched the words. "You told him about me?"

At first, Liesel could not talk. Perhaps it was the sudden bumpiness of love she felt for him. Or had she always loved him? It's likely. Restricted as she was from speaking, she wanted him to kiss her. She wanted him to drag her hand across and pull her over. It didn't matter where. Her mouth, her neck, her cheek. Her skin was empty for it, waiting.

Years ago, when they'd raced on a muddy field, Rudy was a hastily assembled set of bones, with a jagged, rocky smile. In the trees this afternoon, he was a giver of bread and teddy bears. He was a triple Hitler Youth athletics champion. He was her best friend. And he was a month from his death.

Of course I told him about you," Liesel said.”
Markus Zusak, The Book Thief
