Because I was interested – intrigued is a better word – he sent me an advance copy of the book. I take book reviews seriously. It is part of what I do for a living. So, this is, without any doubt, my honest (and for free) opinion of How to Double Your Salary Without Losing Your Soul.

There are no shortage of books out there telling us how to make money. Usually, the best advice those books offer isn’t printed between the covers. It’s “Write a book telling people how to make money”. And, besides, most of us are mature enough to know there is more to life than money, while being realistic enough to know that it is important.

How to double Your Salary fills that gap. It is more than a “How To” book. It’s a “How To Do It Properly” book. Through the experiences of his own life Mark shows us how to make money a servant that works for us rather than a master that keeps us chained.

Most people are too busy living a life to spot the lessons that might be learned along the way. So, having someone with the recall and insight to do that with his own life, and share it with us, is a real gift. Having all of that in book form enables us to consider it and re-read it at our leisure. And there will be parts – different parts for different readers – of Double Your Salary you will want to go over again.

As for the “Without Losing Your Soul” bit of the title – don’t let that put you off. Mark’s faith is an everyday part of how he lives, so, of course, it’s in his writing. But there is no preaching. The pursuit of money can be a dangerous thing. Even if you are not “in faith” you would probably agree that the principles set out by Jesus are a fine way to live. Mark weaves them though the book only to make sure we don’t become trapped by the very thing we are pursuing.

The advice is good, practical, always applicable... There are life-experiences followed by summaries and practical learning points. But the grounding principles are what makes it stand out from the many others on the book shelf, and what should ensure any reader that they are worthy of this goal, and that they can achieve this goal, and still be spiritually sound at the end of it! ...more "
