“Every system of injustice depends on the silence, paralysis, confusion, and cooperation of those it seeks to eliminate or control.”
― Michelle Alexander, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness

“You have a choice. Live or die.
Every breath is a choice.
Every minute is a choice.
Every time you don't throw yourself down the stairs, that's a choice. Every time you don't crash your car, you re-enlist.”
― Chuck Palahniuk, Survivor

“In relation to therapeutic issues where we are manufacturing our own pain, the pain must be understood as a failure of creativity. The response to a certain situation has rigidified. We have lost our ability to create new responses for new situations. We do not understand how we have participated in creating our pain. We are no longer able to recognize new situations when they occur.”
― Greg Johanson, Grace Unfolding: Psychotherapy in the Spirit of Tao-te ching

“You once told me that the human eye is god’s loneliest creation. How so much of the world passes through the pupil and still it holds nothing. The eye, alone in its socket, doesn’t even know there’s another one, just like it, an inch away, just as hungry, as empty. Opening the front door to the first snowfall of my life, you whispered, “Look.”
― Ocean Vuong, On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous
