Grand Admiral Thrawn is by far one of the best ST villains because he is such a well rounded and fascinating character. Thrawn is the kind of protagonist that will not beat his enemies by overwhelming force, but will simply outsmart them because he watches (and respects) those cultures, and learns about them through their artwork. Thrawn is a true tactician that rivals both Vader and the Emperor in ways the reader does not expect.

Jorus C'Baoth is also a worthy villain in the same ways Vader was. It was fascinating to watch C'Baoth's powers gradually grow throughout the books with his insane plots that he believes he can overcome both Luke, Leia, and her children, and bring them all to the dark side. It was a joy to watch the interactions between C'Baoth and Thrawn, matching wits to the end. Both were truly remarkable villains worthy of their stories.

It is always great to see Luke, Leia, Han, and the gang battling it out with the Empire, and this is a trilogy that made me feel like I was experiencing the next chapter in their lives for the first time. Zahn did a wonderful job with all the returning characters, and making them feel like the same characters we fell in love with, just in new and unique circumstances.

Mara Jade was a great character to go up against Luke's own ideals of what it means to be a Jedi, and using the force for good. Having them meet and their interactions throughout the series was fun to read about with both of them teaching and showing each other different viewpoints on the same subject. She is a great character and a worthy opposite/ally for Luke.

This was just an incredible series written by Zahn because he understands the characters he is writing about, and is great about fleshing out new ones as well, bringing this series to a complete and very satisfying conclusion. This is the series that all other ST books should be compared to. I as a reader completely agree with Thrawn about this series when he said, "But, it was so artistically done."
