The book 'The Distance Between Us' is about a teenager named Caymen. Caymen has been told throughout her life by her mother that rich people are worthless. They are only good for buying things that you sell. Caymen and her mother work in a porcelain doll shop, and this year the bills are piling higher and higher. While Caymen was working a normal day, a different customer walks in. Caymen looks him over and can instantly tell that he was drowning in money. After she meets the rich boy named Xander, they soon start to hangout everyday and become good friends. But as she starts to think differently towards Xander, Caymen's friend Skye sets her up with a guy named Mason or 'Tic'. Now that Caymen is starting to have feelings towards Xander, her thoughts are crushed when she finds out that he might have a girlfriend. Now ignoring Xander, Skye tries to set Caymen back up with Mason, but Caymen still thinks about Xander.

I recommend this book because for girls my age, love stories are ways that we can imagine that the story is about us and our crush. And this book does just that. (I pretend like its me and my celebrity crush, Harry Styels...) But I do think this is a book that can describe how to handle this situation if your in something similar to it. Caymen works her way through the frustration of poverty and heartbreak, she still realizes that there are good things to look forward to. This book shows different ways to deal with a tough situations and boy-troubles.

Interview:

Me: Hello Caymen. So tell me, how does it feel to work in a porcelain doll shop?

C: Well sometimes it can get kind of creepy because it gives me nightmares. You know, its like dreaming about a bunch of soul keepers and if you look at their eyes the look through yours. But besides that I like it because when I have to paint the eyes for the birthday parties, I like to think of new color schemes to use.

Me: What do you plan on doing in the future? Will you take over the store?

C: I know that my mom wants me to take over the store, but the thing is that I want to do something that I will enjoy doing. I don't want to sit in a hot and clammy room with barely any air conditioning for 12 houurs everyday of the week. I want to make my own choices and prepare for a future that I will succeed in.

Me: What would you do if you and Xander had the same feelings for each other and your mom found out?

C: I have been told multiple times by my mother that I need to watch out for rich people. For some reason she has had problems in the past from my birth father and she has been cautious. But I do think that Xander could make a good impression on my mom if he shows her that he doesn't care that much about money and cares about the importance of his career and future. ...more "
