“وفي غفلة من الزمان – وبسهولة لا يمكن أيّ أحد تصورها – انبعثت الثورة، وتم لها النجاح. ففي السنوات الخالية البعيدة كان مستر جونز يحسن إدارة مزرعته، ويتسم بالقسوة وحب النظام، إلا أنه قد أخذ في التراخي بعد أن فقد ثروته، واستسلم بعد ذلك للسكر والعربدة!
وقد أصبح يقضي جل وقته في مطبخ منزله بالمزرعة على كرسيه المريح، يقرأ الصحف ويسكر، ويطعم غرابه موسى من وقت لآخر بقطع من الخبز المغموس في الجعة، وتحول عمال المزرعة الى شلة من الكسالى الخربي الذمة، فدبت الاعشاب في الحقول، وتشقق سقف المنزل، و أهملت أسوار المزرعة، و أسلمت الحيوانات لإهمال والجوع!

وأقبل شهر يونيو، حينما كان الدريس معدا للحصاد. وفي يوم السبت الذي يوافق يوما، يحتفل فيه المزارعون يسمى بعيد منتصف الصيف، سافر جونز الى ويلنجدون للاحتفال بهذه المناسبة في حانة "الاسد الاحمر"، واستسلم للشرب حتى ثمل في سكره، ولم يفق إلا عند منتصف يوم الاحد التالي، تاركا أمور المزرعة في أيدي عماله!

وقد حلب العمال البقر في صباح يوم الاحد، ثم ذهبوا لرحلة يصيدون فيها الارانب، دون ان يلتفتوا الى اطعام الحيوانات الجائعة.
وعاد مستر جونز من سفره واتجه الى حجرة الجلوس بالمزرعة، مواصلا نومه على الاريكة، وقد خبأ وجهه بصحيفة "اخبار العالم"، واستمرت الحيوانات على جوعها حتى المساء، وهو الامر الذي لم تستطع معه صبرا. وفجأة دفعت إحدى الابقار باب المخزن بقرنيها، فاندفعت الحيوانات داخله تأكل ما به من غلال!
واستيقظ مستر جونز واستدعى عماله الاربعة، الذين كانوا قد عادوا من رحلتهم، وانبروا جميعا وفي ايديهم سياط يضربون بها الحيوانات ويردونها عن المخزن، وكانت هذه القسوة اكثر مما تحتمله الحيوانات الجوعى.

وبدون ترتيب سابق، وفي وحدة من القصد انقلبت الحيوانات على جلاديها تركلهم وتعضهم، حتى افلت الزمام عن الدفاع عن انفسهم، وانتابهم رعب شديد، وهرعوا الى خارج المزرعة، واتجهوا الى الطريق العام، والحيوانات تتبعهم بعد أن تم لها الانتصار!
وكانت السيدة جونز تتبع الموقعة من نافذتها، وحينما رأت ما حل بزوجها ورجالها جمعت حاجاتها في عجالة، واندفعت تجري في الاتجاه الآخر، والغراب موسى يطير وراءها وهو ينعي ايام السعادة والهناء!”
