"Somehow I am still 2 books ahead of schedule on my reading challenge, although I've barely been reading - in part due to unexpected travel, to evil Netflix for releasing OITNB, etc. The other problem, though, is this novel. My GOD it's long. I'm not afraid of long books - some of them I never want to end, really. This novel spends 15-20 pages getting one basic concept or thought out, though, and it becomes tiresome." Donna Tartt
“—if a painting really works down in your heart and changes the way you see, and think, and feel, you don’t think, ‘oh, I love this picture because it’s universal.’ ‘I love this painting because it speaks to all mankind.’ That’s not the reason anyone loves a piece of art. It’s a secret whisper from an alleyway. Psst, you. Hey kid. Yes you.”
Donna Tartt, The Goldfinch

Jonathan Auxier
“Most trees invite you to climb up into their canopy. This one did not. Most trees make you want to carve your initials into the trunk. This one did not.”
Jonathan Auxier, The Night Gardener

Joe Abercrombie
“The one thing she hated worse than being fussed over was being ignored.”
Joe Abercrombie

Kimberly Rae Miller
“EVERY NIGHT BEFORE I went to sleep, I would conjure the image of the actor George Burns in my head and ask him for the things I wanted most in life: new dolls, a best friend, and for my house to burn down. Religion was not a solidly formed concept for me, but I had seen a movie about God once; he looked like George Burns and was in the habit of causing trouble and granting wishes. I accepted him wholeheartedly as my savior.”
Kimberly Rae Miller, Coming Clean

Ray Bradbury
“Is there a Bible chapter, I wonder? Futilities, verse four, paragraph two?'
'There will be.'
'And will I write it?'
'I have faith in you, Father!'
'Reverend!' he cried.
'Reverend,' I said.”
Ray Bradbury, Green Shadows, White Whale
