Book cover for Anxious to Please: 7 Revolutionary Practices for the Chronically Nice (Learn How to Set Boundaries for a Happier, More Peaceful Life with Less Stress and Anxiety)
Men often find that they cherish courage and integrity above other qualities in their brothers, while women may prize such qualities as emotional openness and honesty. This is a generalization, but it is useful for stimulating thought.

I'm becoming more and more weary of gendered statements. Earlier (forgot to highlight) I had seen some cognitive gender claims that have largely been disputed in neuroscience and neuropsychology.

Paulo Coelho
“Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own.”
Paulo Coelho, The Alchemist

Cal Newport
“As Virginia Woolf argued in her 1929 feminist manifesto, A Room of One’s Own, this imbalance should not come as a surprise. Woolf would agree with Storr that solitude is a prerequisite for original and creative thought, but she would then add that women had been systematically denied both the literal and figurative room of their own in which to cultivate this state. To Woolf, in other words, solitude is not a pleasant diversion, but instead a form of liberation from the cognitive oppression that results in its absence.”
Cal Newport, Digital Minimalism: Choosing a Focused Life in a Noisy World

Laura Kasischke
“She knelt at the side of my bed, kissed my cheek, and I woke, rubbed my eyes, looked up at her dreamily. The hall light shone in my eyes. There was a halo in her hair. It must have been that Tupperware bowl on her head.”
Laura Kasischke, White Bird in a Blizzard: A Novel

Brené Brown
“Sometimes the most dangerous thing for kids is the silence that allows them to construct their own stories—stories that almost always cast them as alone and unworthy of love and belonging.”
Brené Brown, Braving the Wilderness: The Quest for True Belonging and the Courage to Stand Alone
