“It’s a shame we’re not philosophers” implies that immediately prior to saying this, G/G were philosophizing the philosophical concept of philosophy and comparing themselves with it, an important enough THOUGHT to say out loud. You can’t be an unthinking non-sentient organic machine comparing yourself to abstract concepts and then talk about it without being conscious and sentient. Shame itself is a sentient concept, comparing one’s self to something and feeling shame is a conscious concept.
