The voice of the main character, Melinda Sordino, sounds like a real teenager, like Anderson put so much " teenagery" tone and atmosphere to this character, it makes me relate to the story. Even if the overall plot isn't related to me, I still feel how she feels, being a teen myself.
One of the passages that I can relate to says,

Older Students are allowed to roam until the bell, but ninth-graders are herded into the auditorium. We fall into clans: Jocks, Country Clubbers, Idiot Savants, Cheerleaders, Human waste, Eurotrash, Future Fascists of America, Big Hair Chix, the Marthas, Suffering Artists, Thespians, Goths, Shredders. I am clanless.

Now, I wouldn't say some of this names in real life because that's mean, but reading this felt like I was entering high school all over again. I can relate to this because when I first walked into high school, EVERYONE was in their groups. The popular kids, the preppy kids, the athletes, etc. And honestly, I felt "clanless" like Sordino, not that I didn't have friends, because I did (and still do) but I felt like I wouldn't be able to fit in with everyone else and make friends from the other schools. Like I felt like other groups would except me. ( But eventually, I did make new friends from different groups, so its ok)
Another thing that I think a lot of people can relate to is the The First Ten Lies They Tell You In High School section. The list says stuff like , " The dress code will be enforced," and, "These will be the years you look back on fondly." But sometimes, the rules they have at school aren't really enforced. Like I go to school and see some people wearing some inappropriate things but teachers or staff don't really say anything about it. I don't know, this section just related to me and probably some other students at school.
I just really like the way Anderson made Melinda come to life. I feel like Melinda is so realistic that there is probably a student that is exactly like her. That's why this book is easy to understand, because its from a teens point of view, so I felt how she feels and it just makes the book and easier book to read.
Again, I'm sorry that I haven't read that much of the book, But I strongly encourage teens like me to read this book. Its will be an easy book to understand and its a great book for kids my age to read and enjoy. I can't wait to read more myself. ...more "
