As the middle child of two brothers, Greg’s big brother Rodrick likes to hit him for no reason. His little brother Manny is clumsy. This is obvious when Greg finds a cookie in his Xbox. Greg’s mother spends her time writing about all the mistakes her children make in her blog while his father is constantly creating battlefield replicas. One of Greg’s only friends is called Rowley. He is very weird because he likes to play baby games and listen to baby music

Most of the story takes place at home and at school. At school there is a lot of superstition and rumors, especially jokes in class. Greg’s family is quite dramatic and his life is portrayed through the diary.

Since "Diary of A Wimpy Kid" is a diary , it is written in the 1st person. The diary is very interesting because there are many illustrations that go with the writing. I think that this story doesn’t have enough adventure which spoils the story. Adventure makes a story more interesting. The diary is repetitive and sometimes extremely predictable. For example, when Greg receives Manny’s gift it was obvious that someone was going to sit on it ( it was a ball of aluminum with toothpicks inside). It is interesting to read a story of a boy in middle school, especially while in middle school.

The relationship between Greg, Rodrick and Manny plays an important role in the development of " Diary of a Wimpy Kid" When the brothers are fighting it disturbs the family dynamic. The brothers like to tattle tale on each other. Further along in the story, Rodrick and Greg are left alone when their parents go on holiday and leave Manny ( the youngest brother) with his grandma. Rodrick decides to have a party and locks Greg in the basement. At this point, Greg wants to tell on his older brother but he knows that tattle taling just gets him into trouble with his parents. Since they were younger Greg has never had good luck with his parents being on his side.

In " Diary of a Wimpy Kid" the big brother's reputation is important for the little brother in school. The same goes for real life. If your older brother was always treated badly with a teacher and you have this teacher he will antagonize you. An example in the book is when Greg says, ''Mrs. Lee is my pre-algebra teacher, and I'm guessing she also had Rodrick when he was in middle school. Because this woman watches me like a HAWK.''. Secondly, when your older brother is good at something ( like sports, music or art) your mother wants to use this as a lesson for you and your friends. For example, Greg's school cannot give music lessons to their students because they cannot afford it anymore. So Greg's mom suggests that Rodrick give lessons to the middle schoolers because of his good reputation as a drummer. If it weren't for his talent in music, Rodrick's reputation is bad, which isn't good for Greg.

Sometimes middle schoolers cheat. They either think about it or do it, because some of them don't like work. It is common for some students to steal an assignment that either their brother or relative have done before. In the Diary, Greg wrote about having to do an assignment in History, but he didn't have the time to do it so he paid his brother to take an assignment he had done in middle school. In "The Dairy of a Wimpy Kid" Greg imagines being a kid with a glass eye and he thinks that would be easier to cheat. In conclusion, when you don't study for a test it's better to try your hardest and make some mistakes because if you cheat you will not learn about your mistakes. You also might get caught by your teachers and get suspended. ...more "
