To anyone putting off this book because you’ve heard BookTok hate on it, let this be your sign to IGNORE THEM! Because I read this in a DAY, and it just became my new favorite Emily Henry book (yes, I’ve read them all, and I didn’t think anything could top “Funny Story” or “Happy Place”). I truly don’t understand how this isn’t more popular than “Book Lovers”… It’s also a much better vacation book than “Beach Read”, which I brought to the beach last year and now I wanna go back in time and bring this book instead.

Unlike “Book Lovers” (based on my personal experience) this actually FELT like an Emily Henry book. Her writing was quite possibly my favorite out of all her books. I was laughing my ass off and then the next page sobbing. The banter in “People We Meet On Vacation” might potentially be the best in any of her books, and I think that has to do with these characters being friends first, for 12+ years. They have no secrets, they’ve seen each other at their most embarrassing, they know everything about each other to the core, and their dialogue is incredible for it.

I think I loved this book because it was very low on the romance, maybe 5-15% (iykyk☺️) and more heavy on friendship, coming-of-age, and the discovery of purpose. I usually need a slow burn for a romance book to hit anyways, so this story delivered in every way! The flashbacks, the pining, the banter, the travel! This book was everything I wanted from an Emily Henry book, a women’s fiction, and a contemporary romance.

I was absolutely swept away by Poppy & Alex’s adventures and friendship. My first impression was that this felt reminiscent of “When Harry Met Sally”, and Emily Henry acknowledges she was inspired by it, which I loved - that’s one of my favorite movies already so this was a lovely surprise!

If you loved “First-Time Caller” by B.K. Borison because it felt like a “Sleepless in Seattle” spinoff, then you are seriously missing out if you haven’t read “People We Meet On Vacation”. It give the same movie-on-a-page feel, I had warm fuzzies the whole time. ...more "
