" Book 6 of wheel of time and we are starting to lag a little bit. It’s not too bad but Robert Jordan includes so much detail. He could have taken a scythe to this book and it would have still come away with the same plot line.

Trying to review this book I’m realizing how much Chaos there really was.

Synopsis (skip to the end for my thoughts):

Rand is juggling the Forsaken, the Aiel, Aes Sedai, male Aes Sedai he calls Asha’aman. Cairhen, Caemlyn, politics from local leaders and armies- not to mention his own friends. He also can’t make up his mind about who he loves—Aviendha, Elayne, or Min.

Mat is traveling with an army of men who have sworn to him. Rand moves him towards attacking Sammael. At the last minute, Mat’s plan changes and Rand has him go find Elayne to bring her to the palace to be crowned. Elayne doesn’t go willingly and Mat is forced to follow her and Nynaeve to Ebou Dar where she is chasing Ter’angreal because she believes she can make them.
He also saved a boy named Olver and has taken him in as his Ward.

Perrin arrives from the Two Rivers with a group of two rivers men and Loial and Faile. Verin and Alanna are with him and Alanna bonds Rand as a warder against his will. Alanna is now about to sense Rand and vise versa. Perrin gets to meet his in-laws.

Egwene is getting more and more powerful in the dreams. She is also getting harder like the Aiel and sees herself following jietoh. She finds Gawyn who swears his love and sword to her and she promises him she will bond him as her warder in the future. Although only an Accepted, she is brought to the Little Tower and made Amrylin of the rebel Aes Sedai. She decrees that Nynaeve & Elayne are now full Aes Sedai even though they do not have the Oath Rod.

Nynaeve and Elayne travel to Salidar with a circus. Along the way, they’re using the ring and disc to travel Tel’aran’rhiod. Moghedian cuts Brigitte from the world of dreams and in order to save her, Elayne bonds her as her warder. Nynaeve picks up a group of men when they run into Uno and Massena, who now calls himself the prophet. Tom and Julian are still with them. Nynaeve finds Moghedian in the world of dreams and links her with an a’dam when they find out she is masquerading as an Aes Sedai in Salidar. They use her for information.

The Aes Sedai think they can control Rand. And pretty much everyone for that matter. In the end, the first nine Aes Sedai kneel and swear fealty to Rand.

The books have this hilarious dichotomy between men and women. Men think women are difficult and should be avoided. They think they need to be coddled. Women think the men are stupid and need to be manipulated into doing what they want. No one communicates about this, of course!

The book definitely drug at times but overall I liked it. The best bits were the ones with Mat, Perrin, Nynaeve, and Egwene. Excited for the next one! ...more "
