I’ve tried to enjoy the story despite her and try to see things from her pov, but it’s difficult and I’m trying more than I’m enjoying. For a Princess of 26 (I think that’s her age), she is extremely close-minded, ignorant, and childish. She says she hates Adrian and calls all vampires monsters, but is apparently powerless to the affect he has on her despite her feeling disgusted and guilty. She wants to feel real sexual pleasure, which is her main excuse for having sexual relations with him, but continues to judge and “hate” him and his kind. One of her conditions for marrying him is that he doesn’t sleep with anyone else. Selfish much??? Her intention is to not be a partner to him, plans to kill him, and only cares about ruling, but he can only have sex with her? I see a double standard here. Plus, her jealousy towards his blood donor aka vassal is completely unwarranted. She has no right to feel that way towards someone who gives him the sustenance he needs to survive, that which she refuses to give, mind you! Here’s an example of her childish and jealous nature:

“Of course,” I said, and as I placed it upon my head, I felt that it belonged there.

“Adrian will not look away,” said Ana.

“I suppose that depends on whether or not his favorite vassal is there,” I said. I imagined Safira would be present despite the fact that I’d asked Adrian not to drink from her.

Oh yes, she’s not only jealous, but asked Adrian to find another vassal. Ridiculous.

Im still powering through, but I feel like this is gonna end up being one of those “I met you in a past life and you’re the only one for me” typa deals, and if so, I will throw this book against the wall.

EDIT:

As I read on, I realize that maybe the author is trying to make petty jealousy and possessiveness a kink for Adrian and Isolde, but I think she’s going about it the wrong way. For me, that kink works best when the people involved are already in a committed relationship of love, respect, and trust. Adrian and Isolde do not have that type of relationship as of yet, so it comes off as petty and immature every time Isolde acts out. Adrian is possessive and can be jealous as well, but he doesn’t act out and actually wants her to open her mind and heart to him. ...more "
