Cheryl Strayed
“This is not because he doesn’t love you. But love doesn’t make a mean drunk not a mean drunk or a narcissist not a narcissist or a jackass not a jackass.”
Cheryl Strayed, Tiny Beautiful Things: Advice on Love and Life from Dear Sugar

Ainsley Arment
“But remember this: you cannot ruin your children any more than you can perfect them.”
Ainsley Arment, The Call of the Wild and Free: Reclaiming Wonder in Your Child's Education

“If we do not first choose discipline for ourselves, we cannot expect to instill such a character trait in little people whose impulse control is spotty at best and whose emotions dangle on the gossamer thread of a missed nap. We must train ourselves to remember that we, not they, are meant to be the emotional thermostats of our own homes.”
Abbie Halberstadt, M Is for Mama: A Rebellion Against Mediocre Motherhood

“Confined to the house with a napping baby, or too constrained by the dual demands of work and motherhood to fit in face-to-face time with friends, she enters a digital world that promises connection and sharing. More often than not, she emerges feeling lonely, anxious, and unsure of herself.”
Molly Millwood, To Have and to Hold: Motherhood, Marriage, and the Modern Dilemma

“led by Dr. Susan Lynch from the University of California in San Francisco. This study collected dust samples from homes with and without dogs, and showed that upon exposing mice to the different dust samples, the mice that were given dust from homes with dogs were less likely to develop asthma. What’s more, they looked at the type of bacteria in the dust samples and found a specific species, Lactobacillus johnsonii, associated with the improvement of asthma in mice. When they grew this bacterium in the lab and fed it to mice in the absence of any dust, they found that it lowered the risk of asthma, demonstrating that this and perhaps other species of beneficial bacteria, along with the dogs that bring them into households, are responsible for decreasing asthma risks.”
B. Brett Finlay, Let Them Eat Dirt: How Microbes Can Make Your Child Healthier
