“It is not sacrilegious to ask God for a living experience of His love. This longing is not cynical or suspicious. It is childlike to ask for the idea to become your experience. Some people hold back from God, not wanting Him to be offended or disappointed in their lack of faith or understanding. God sees all our limits whether we voice them or not and is not surprised or offended. He paid a high price to establish the reality of a living connection with us on earth. Working through our doubts, fears, and uncertainties is not a problem for Him. We do not live in biblical accounts and descriptions of His love- its height and depth. Biblical words about the love of God are like title deeds to a house; you still need to open the door and walk in. You can be told you own the house a thousand different ways, but until you move in, it will never be home. You can have a belief that God loves you, and you can back up that belief with all sorts of resources and scriptures, but unless something happens that convinces you to the core of your existence, that you are directly loved by Him, your being “loved” by God will be a technical truth rather than a living reality. How well do you know His love? Can you feel it? Does God treat you in ways that cause you to feel loved? These are good questions but may be painful for some people. Spending time with God and processing these questions with Him will fast track knowing Him.”
