When I read the first 3 chapters of the book, I had a flashback from when I was in high school hanging with my friends and even ge I rated this book five stars, since it has approached real life situations that appears in high school students’ lives. When I read the first 3 chapters of the book, I had a flashback from when I was in high school hanging with my friends and even getting in trouble with them. Although, sometimes we ended up in detentions, like what happened to the main characters at the beginning. The book has also showed how excluding others, bullying, and gossiping may lead to physical and psychological issues, and may also lead to suicide in some cases. Simon was a student at the Bayview college, who was excluded and hated by his fellow students due to his gossip app. But, in the book it was mentioned that Simon has created the app and got into gossiping because he wanted attention from others. The book has also showed how judging people because of their sexuality, actions, and their appearance may lead to emotional and mental breakdowns. Cooper, the talented student athlete who gets scholarship offers from the biggest colleges in the country, was roasted and left out after his colleagues discovered that he’s gay on the gossip app called “About That.” The gossip app also revealed that Addy, the innocent girl who did all she can to satisfy her boyfriend and make him happy, cheated on him with one of his best friends. Since then, she had been judged and left out by everyone who knew her or was friends with her because they saw her as a slut. McManus has included issues that high school kids encounter on a daily basis. Many people can relate to this book when there seems to be anecdotal evidence of what actually happens in high school. I gave this book five stars because it included all of the abovementioned issues in a way which other high school kids can relate to. It was easy to read and has a lot of suspense.
I would certainly recommend this book to high school students, since they do not realize how much they can hurt each other by gossiping and bullying till they read a novel that is relatable to their lives. I would also recommend parents to read this book, it really helps the parents acknowledger the issues their kids may be going through nowadays high school situation, so they can be aware of their kids can encounter in school on a daily basis. This book also provides situations in which the parents aren’t involved in their children’s lives anymore that they start making wrong decisions. So, it’s basically raising awareness on the consequences of uninformed parenting and what it may lead to. ...more "
