And here are my overall thoughts, feelings, and review in regards to this book.

When I read this for a second time, back in April of 2020 when the stay-at-home order was in place because of COVID-19, I hadn’t thought about writing a review for this incredible story. What could I say that hasn’t already been said by many of its fans? But now, after visiting it again this year in 2021, I have decided it was best to review it this time.

I remember, when I first read this sometime between my junior high and high school years, how it took me quite some time to become used to Tolkien’s style of writing. I pushed myself to read because The Fellowship of the Ring enchanted me when it was shown on the big screen in 2001. I fell in love with this world at such a young age, so once I’d gotten older I tackled the books.

Last year I went with the audiobook which, I know I’ve said before, ended up blowing me away. It was perfect from start to finish. Hands down one of my absolute favorite audiobooks ever. I definitely loved and prefer the version I listened to last year compared to the one I listened to this year, but that’s because the former went full out by adding music and sound effects.

This is one of those rare times where I love the book just as much as I love the films. For while I am still dismayed that Glorfindel was not a part of the films, I loved how Haldir and the army of Elves from Lothlórien came to help at Helm’s Deep in The Two Towers. To say one is better than the other is nearly impossible, or so it is for me.

I want to give this book, by which I mean The Lord of the Rings as a whole since it was the way Tolkien intended it to be, all the stars in the world. This book brought me comfort and joy, especially during the early stages of 2020’s storm, by allowing me to escape into its world and join the Fellowship on their epic journey. And even now, in 2021, it still brought me that same amount of joy and comfort and happiness.
