I love the overlapping timeline, I think it adds so much to the story to understand that the characters are living separate lives. Also, I love the insight into Ilya’s life in Role Model, and the insight into Troy in The Long Game, from the others POV.

I liked Troy’s arc, it was refreshing from reading heated rivalry to read about a character that already is aware of their queerness but struggles with other issues. I similarly liked how Harris had health struggles which made him more compelling, at first I didn’t quite enjoy his POV, but he did become more interesting.

My favourite scenes were the drive between Harris and Troy around town to see Christmas lights. I thought it was so adorable when Troy found the apple pin in New York. I loved how he came out to Ilya and clocked him about Shane (which was mentioned in the long game and I was wondering why they didn’t show the actual scene, now I know why).

Troy and Ilya are similar characters who were both struggling to feel like they were worthy enough for those around them. Troy’s arc was very interesting, where we see him fall in love with Harris, we see him confront his own toxic behaviour when he played for the Toronto Guardians, and we see how he feels like he’ll never be accepted for who he is. There was so much to mine. And there was so much character development!!

Each scene had so many layers to them because it was split into two books. The mapping the timeline between the books was so fun. The Vancouver games. New York. Christmas. The plane incident. The pride game. It was so good.

I liked them as a couple, I thought it was so cute how much time they spent together and how they gave each other space to feel comfortable. The slow burn was so sweet and rewarding to play around with. I loved when they first ended up together after a specific incident changed things.

Also, I am surprised the team knows Ilya goes to therapy - he didn’t even mention it to Shane for a long time in the books, unless it was a scheduling secret somehow Harris knows? ...more "

" This book was so cute and wholesome!!

I loved the characters, they had so much dimension and were so interesting. I loved all the characters and even though there wasn’t much of a storyline it kept things interesting. I think they did a great job with writing prince Henry’s character. I think it’s such an interesting look at what it feels like to be to feel different, especially with Henry. Also it’s nice to read about young adult characters (in college and not just in hs). The characters were fascinating to read about and their family dynamics with Alex’s divorced parents and then the Royal family.

I feel like the writing was awkward at some points and trying too hard to sound like what a twenty-something person would say. A lot of Alex’s dialogue feels too immature, but I think they nailed Henry’s British vibe. It was a bit jarring how many run on sentences there were, but it was whatever.

The worst part was any scene with WASPy Hunter.

The emails were such a fun part, and I felt like the writing got better as you went through the book. There is a lot of exploration for each of their characters. I love how Henry opens himself up and has so many new experiences after meeting Alex. [SPOILER]: the part where their relationship was discovered and their emails were leaked was crazyy. I would be so embarrassed.

But I also loved how similar they were and how much they were able to open up to each other. The development of their relationship is so good. Even the reasons why they hated each other in the beginning. I love how Alex is a bit lonely and has no other friends besides Nora and June, but he ends up becoming friends with Henry’s group. They both grow so much. Alsoo, Henry having insomnia was such a good character trait, because they needed a reason for his character to be able to stay up and talk to Alex even with their time difference. But it makes sense with everything that happened to his character! But I loved how easy it was for him to sleep everytime he was with Alex.

Also I love the foreshadowing and the references from earlier scenes that come up with later! It’s so fun. I would love to read this again. I feel like it’s such a real and genuine story and that you get to know the characters so well. ...more "
