Everything about this book is a work of art. It spans centuries but still feels timeless. It is set across oceans and continents, but always manages to feel like home. It perfectly captures the tug of wanderlust while simultaneously instilling a craving for the routine and familiar.
In and of themselves, our main characters aren't especially unique. Addie is driven by her longing to be free, and Henry, a desperate craving for acceptance and unconditional love. And yet the manifestation of the deals stemming from their desires makes for such a captivating story, and makes them so easy to grow attached to and feel your heart ache with their struggles.
I love V.E. Schwab's manner of storytelling and the vivid detail she imprinted on all of Addie's adventures. I love the way we get to follow a protagonist through a journey of centuries and see her grow amidst a changing world. I loved Luc — a character who I really can't call morally grey when he's the literal Darkness itself — and the notion that even a god who can effortlessly have almost anything he ever wants will find things to yearn for.
While this is absolutely one of the books I would sell my soul (hahaha) to read again for the first time, this book was honestly even better the second time around and has been solidified as one of my all-time favorites. While I know this book isn't for everyone, it's still one that I wish everyone would read. This is just such a beautiful story, and it's hard to walk away from this book without having a renewed appreciation for everything you have in life with the way it illustrates how no matter what you may have or think you want, you'll always be left searching for something more.

This book manages to completely shatter my heart every single time, and I love it so much it hurts. There's just such a profound resonance to Addie's story; to Henry's, and this book so perfectly captures the many intricacies of longing in all its forms. The writing is gorgeous, the storytelling is magical, and these characters always continue to live in my heart and mind.
I intentionally read this book slowly on this reread to try to savor it, and still it was over too quickly. Having now read it three times, I think I can finally say that this is my absolute favorite book of all time, and I really have a hard time imagining anything ever surpassing it. There's just nothing that makes me feel the way this book does, and while it hurts every time it ends, I always look forward to the next time I get to pick it up and dive back into this story once again.

Don't let the 4 months it took me to finish this reread fool you: This book is simply too perfect a read to waste on casual time-passing, and I needed to make sure that every time I sat down and opened it up, I was properly equipped to marvel at how perfect each and every moment was.
