I have seen the movie too. I think the screenwriter did an excellent job in bringing out the issues and concerns a small Southern town deals with when dealing with discrimination and racism. It reminded me of what happened in my hometown. I will bring up an incident dealing with racism in the court system during the 50's in my hometown. It happened when I was in the 5th grade and I was 10 years old. The custodian of my elementary school had been dating a white woman on a part-time job at night. They got caught and she cried "Rape!" and he was arrested and placed in jail. Within six months he was tried, convicted of rape, sentenced to be executed and was electrocuted. I never forgot this. As a child I was shocked, my classmates didn't know how to handle it, none of us were provided counseling, and we could not talk about it at home. Can you imagine what this incident did to us? We loved the custodian. We would not see him any more. What a tragedy!...more
