Maybe just a little too prolific; to the extent that this novel disappoints it's in not quite living up to its potential. It seems to have everything it needs to speak to the moment--libertarian-Left Humboldt County meets alt-Right, anti-immigrant sovereign movement. It's guns and drugs and alcohol and mental health and unhinged politics set amidst the redwoods and that was plenty 'nuff to keep this reader reading. But in the end, one isn't left with much to hold on to. The material doesn't seem to mean anything. Maybe just this: Life is a tale told by an idiot, signifying nothing. But I think I already knew that. ... Still, for sheer entertainment, it's a good read....more
