"Approaching the end of this exciting biography! More emphasis on sacrifice but also the reward of chasing a dream and making it com true. Apolo's dad must have been super strong raising a kid all on his own then watching him set records and become an american symbol and super athlete. Also, I like in this book that Apolo is proud of his accomplishments he doesn't try to be overly modest about what he has worked for." — May 22, 2011 10:42PM

"Even at only 41 pages one can get a sense of the conflicts in this play. It is these very conflicts that spark interest in the reader. To me one of the most interesting conflicts in this book exists between Rose and Troy. It is clear that they both share compassion for those surround them but what makes this relationship interesting is the way that they each express this compassion." — Mar 29, 2011 10:03PM

"I said in my last post I don't really read this book in order because it's made up of a bunch of mini stories. Once section that I found particularly interesting was one on page 77, a passage from Bontemps-Hughes discussing how slaves were 'nameless.' This was an interesting concept for me to debate as I often think of names holding significance to an individual. Distinguishes such as these are small but powerful." — Mar 13, 2011 11:15PM
