"It's okay so far. I think I might've done this book a disservice by reading it straight after 'Salem's Lot. The plot so far is intriguing and I'm hoping for the claustrophobic horror at some point, but atm it's mostly pretty standard horror stuff that feels a little awkward on the page. But I'm only 60 pages in so I'm sure it'll pick up!" Jan 24, 2026 02:06PM

Maggie Stiefvater
“All this time she'd been wondering how Gansey might die and it turned out she was going to strangle him.”
Maggie Stiefvater, The Raven Boys

Donna Tartt
“A moi, L'historie d'une de mes folies.”
Donna Tartt, The Secret History

Maggie Stiefvater
“She said, "We can pretend. Just once. And then we'll never say anything about it again."

What a strange, shifting person he was. The Gansey who turned to her now was a world away from the lofty boy she'd first met. Without any hesitation, she stretched her arms around his neck. Who was this Blue? She felt bigger than her body. High as the stars. He leaned toward her--her heart spun again--and pressed his cheek against hers. His lips didn't touch her skin, but she felt his breath, hot and uneven, on her face. His fingers splayed on either side of her spine. Her lips were so close to his jaw that she felt his hint of stubble at the end of them. It was mint and memories and the past and the future and she felt as if she'd done this before and already she longed to do it again.

Oh, help, she thought. Help, help, help.

He pulled away. He said, "And now we never speak of it again.”
Maggie Stiefvater, The Dream Thieves

Grace D. Li
“Loss was the hesitation in his voice when he spoke his mother tongue, the myths he did not know, a childhood that felt so vast and
alien from his parents' that he did not know how to cross it.”
Grace D. Li, Portrait of a Thief

Grace D. Li
“How to be the
daughter she was supposed to be, her parents’ American Dream. How to
untangle the parts of her that were Chinese and the parts of her that were
American, how both so often felt like neither.”
Grace D. Li, Portrait of a Thief
