بثوب فضفاض من الصلاح والنبل والكرم, متمنية أن

سأفزع إلى رحمتك عند إخفاق الأماني, وأبثك شكوى

أحزاني - أنا التي تراني طروبة طيارة.

وأحصي لك الأثقال التي قوست كتفيَّ وحنت

رأسي منذ فجر أيامي - أنا التي أسير محفوفة

بجناحين متوجة بإكليل.

وسأدعوك أبي وأمي متهيبة فيك سطوة الكبير وتأثير الآمر.

وسأطلب منك الرأي والنصيحة عند ارتباك فكري واشتباك السبل.

كل ذلك, وأنت لا تعلم!

سأستعيد ذكرك متكلمًا في خلوتي لأسمع منك

حكاية غمومك وأطماعك وآمالك. حكاية البشر المتجمعة في فرد أحد.

وسأتسمع إلى جميع الأصوات علِّي أعثر على لهجة صوتك.

وأشرِّح جميع الأفكار وأمتدح الصائب من الآراء

ليتعاظم تقديري لآرائك وأفكارك.

وسأتبين في جميع الوجوه صور التعبير والمعنَى

لأعلم كم هي شاحبة تافهة لأنها ليست صور تعبيرك ومعناك.

وسأبتسم في المرآة ابتسامتك.

فى حضورك سأتحول عنك إلى نفسي لأفكر فيك,

وفى غيابك سأتحول عن الآخرين إليك لأفكر فيك.

سأتصورك عليلاً لأشفيك, مصابًا لأعزيك,

مطرودًا مرذولاً لأكون لك وطنًا وأهل وطن, سجينًا

لأشهدك بأي تهور يجازف الإخلاص, ثم أبصرك

متفوقاً فريدًا لأفاخر بك وأركن إليك.

وسأتخيل ألف ألف مرة كيف أنت تطرب, وكيف

تشتاق, وكيف تحزن, وكيف تتغلب على عاديّ

الانفعال برزانة وشهامة لتستسلم ببسالة وحرارة إلاّ

الانفعال النبيل. وسأتخيل ألف ألف مرة إلى أي درجة

تستطيع أنت أن تقسو, وإلى أي درجة تستطيع أنت أن

ترفق لأعرف إلى أي درجة تستطيع أنت أن تحب.

وفى أعماق نفسي يتصاعد الشكر لك بخورًا لأنك

أوحيت إليّ ما عجز دونه الآخرون.

أتعلم ذلك, أنت الذي لا تعلم? أتعلم ذلك, أنت

You think of this person on every occasion and in everything you do. Simple things bring them to mind like a pale blue sky, gentle wind or even a storm cloud on the horizon. You open your heart knowing that there’s a chance it may be broken one day and in opening your heart, you experience a love and joy that you never dreamed possible. You find that being vulnerable is the only way to allow your heart to feel true pleasure that’s so real it scares you. You find strength in knowing you have a true friend and possibly a soul mate who will remain loyal to the end. Life seems completely different, exciting and worthwhile.
