It's always a special experience to see yourself splayed out on paper, skin peeled back to reveal the scary dark bits that no one wants to admit. That's how I feel about Feyre Archeron. This is a girl plucked right out of my own soul. She promised away her life as a child to care for her family, people who really couldn't care less if she lived or died except that they wouldn't have anyone to feed them, clothe them, and clean up after them. All the while, Feyre's beautiful artist's heart bleeds for a world that she doesn't believe exists. One where she can only worry for herself and lean into pleasure for the first time in her short life.

As the cauldron would have it, there's much more for Feyre than this meager existence in the human world. She makes a choice and gets dragged away from everything she's ever known into a world of magic, light, and every color she could've conjured in her dreams. She gets tangled up in intrigue and drama, all the while trying to find her place in this new life while a beautiful masked man tries his best to seduce and guide her to a destiny that she never asked for.

Feyre is a woman who will always put others before herself. Always. When all hell breaks loose and this new reality is on the brink of ruin, she does the unimaginable. A human surrounded by all manner of powerful creature ventures into a pit of malice and blood to save the people she's come to love without a single care for her own well being or safety. She flays herself to the bone both physically and emotionally, fighting against all odds.

This book series is home for me. I've spent so much time in Prythian with these characters that they feel like my family. It's a series that calls to me constantly and as my track record shows, it gets my attention plenty. This is a story filled to the brim with complex, beautiful characters that will make you laugh, sob, and throw the book across the room. They live rent free in my head (and on my skin in tattoo form lol) and I hope they'll stay in there forever, keeping me company on the dark days. ...more "
