That said, LoS was an incredible book!! I am so pleased! To be honest, I didn't really expect any less from Cassandra Clare, because I am an avid fan of her novels, and I trust that anything she writes will be good. That said, I do honestly believe LoS was a great follow-up to LM. There was A TON of character development, especially for Kieran, Kit, and Julian.

I really love how Cassandra has been focusing on the Faeries in LM and LoS, but especially LoS. Of all the Downworlder races, she has touched on Faerie culture and politics the least, so I am very happy that she is finally delving into it. It adds a unique touch to this book that makes it feel less urban fantasy and more high fantasy, which I love and I think is excellent world-building on Cassie's part.

LoS has a true emphasis on the importance of family and sticking together. Julian is an increasingly more interesting character as we discover why he does less-than-moral things. Also, Cassie is genius when it comes to roping in prejudice and oppression and not making it seem forced. Everything makes sense once you connect it to the Shadowhunters' past and how each cause has an effect. The politics exhibited in LoS are definitely unique to this world and this story, yet they are recognizable in our own history as humans. For instance, many times I was reminded of the Treaty of Versailles and the bitterness the Germans felt toward it after WWI when reading about the Cold Peace.

All right, I can't figure out how to talk more about this book without spoiling anything so I'll leave you with this: the romance is amazing!! So many potential romances on the way, and many others blossom! The action scenes are awesome and the villains are so interesting! This huge cast of characters we have is so great, and I can't even begin to describe how intertwined they are and how much they grow together and individually. And lastly, the last pages of the book are incredible. Heartbreaking, but incredibly written. I feel mortally injured by Cassandra Clare and what crimes she has committed in LoS, but like everyone else, I am somewhat masochistic and will return to be hurt every time she comes out with a new release. (Also, so many things are uncertain!)

So if for some reason you read LM and are having your doubts as to whether you should read LoS, your answer is yes. You definitely should. ...more "
