It just amazes me how Tolkien had such a good grasp of fantasy way before the grasp of fantasy truly kicked off. While I was reading this book, I realized that he had a great imagination to create this story so long ago and is amazing how to this day that this book alone since it was published in 1937 is still popular and if you think about it in twenty-two years this story will be one hundred years old.
J.R.R Tolkien has this great grasp of fantasy way before it became popular but, what most people don’t know is that he got the ideas of all these different things for his books by taking them from old ancient history, back when England was first starting out and was known as Middle Earth or Anglo-Saxon. Tolkien took some languages form the Anglo-Saxon time period to use for the different languages in his books according to the Tolkien society. The author took real things from the Anglo-Saxon time period and made them fake but kept what I guess the meaning of them. The different creatures that live in middle earth are just like the different runes that he studied in collage at Oxford University, witch you can see that he even put the runes on the map in the front of the book.
I found out that the places that Tolkien created were real places back and ancient England. According to what I had found out from my Aunt and read on the Tolkien Society web site that it is true that Tolkien took places like Mirkwood and made it seem like it is all made up. The rings and everything were apart of that particular time that the lords had and they created smaller rings to give to there followers so if you say the ring they had on you knew who he was loyal to. They lived so similar some lived in a city some lived in the side of a hill some lived in a house everything is the same as back then but made fiction.
Tolkien wrote this book and made it seem like you were actually living in it. He was able to take history and molded into a fictional book. When you think about this book he has done it all, he went and made cold hard facts and makes it fun. Then Tolkien went and did what most people cant and hid the greatest part of his work by molding history. ...more "
