I did not finish the book. I found the writing unprofessional and the characters unidentifiable. I felt the characters spent more time fearfully contemplating every change, than adapting to it. I felt the characters spent more time fearfully contemplating every change, than adapting to it. As a female pioneer in our own military, heaven knows there were challenges, disappointments, and serious adjustments. With a War on, what does one expect? True, I was not under the pressure of life and death, as were the characters, however, what took place each day managed to blot out the background and our futures to a large degree. Most of our young women did not come from lives of privilege, true, but we had thicker skins. All of us had family and friends in the military, which affected our decisions and commitments. Somehow the love interest in the story seemed sketchy and an after-thought. No doubt, the research of a period cannot compare with the involvement in one, but you know why I elected to read the book. My best to Ms. Lane. If she wishes to get back at me, she could read my period post-Civil War romance, Victorian Turnabout. Having lived in England, I am still pro-anglo-American. D.
