Channeling a “different” identity helped him focus every ounce of his talent and skill, and enabled him to show up on the field, without any emotional issues interfering with his performance.
Interestingly, though I do not channel a specific identity, but I catch myself emulating best practices, e.g., impressed with the efficiency of Germans, I would try to be punctual; if I were Floyd Mayweather, I will be the hardest working athlete; or if I were Kobe, I would take the shot.
