I chose to read this book for a non-fiction reading project in APLAC. I picked this book inpeticular because I wanted to challenge myself with something a little darker than what i'm used to. This book is narrated from the point of view of Dr. Baer, a therapist. This story is a narration of his experience with one of his patients Karen. Karen becomes a very important patient because of how bad her circumstances are. She has a powerful urge to kill herself that comes from her past. Baer writes about his sessions with her when she talks about the abuse she faced as a child. Her childhood was very scaring to her personality. But this is expected of someone whose father treated them like an object at his will. She talks about the multiple "Parties" her father would have in which she was sexually abused by his co workers. With this and many other stories of abuse in her past it's been very difficult for me to read this book. I'm not used to feeling a sense of pain when reading, but reading this book has made me aware that some books are just that powerful.

11/14- I'm still reading Switching Time by Dr. Richard Baer. As I said before this book has been difficult to read, but it's getting easier. In very small ways i'm started to see progress being made with Karen. She is getting more comfortable with Dr. Baer and this connection is allowing him to see into something much bigger. Dr. Baer tells Karen that he thinks she has Multiple personality disorder. this means that their are several different personalities in her that she has never noticed. He discovers this when Karen says she is losing time. Moments that she cant remember in that very day. Shorty after Dr. Baer recieves a letter from Karen's address, written by a little girl named Claire, one of Karen's split personalities. Since Baer told Karen about her disorder she is doing much better. She is now aware of everyone inside her and she knows how to control the bad feelings. I'm excited to keep reading this book because I think it will continue to interest me. ...more "
