The Walking dead focuses on Rick Grimes, a cop in a small town in Kentucky with his friend Shane. During a shoot out with a criminal Rick gets shot and falls into a coma. After an unidentified amount of time he wakes up in a deserted hospital. Suspicious, he walks around and finds a door that reads "Don't Open Dead Inside". He leaves the hospital confused. He walks around the neighborhood and finds that it's turned into a ghost town. He takes a seat to take everything in, he then gets hit over the head with a shovel by Duane Jones. Morgan Jones, the father of Duane, takes Rick in and tells him about what's happened since he's been in a coma. He learns that there has been an outbreak of a virus that turns people into zombies when they die, he also learns that people were told to go to big cities to find help from the government. Rick decides to go to Atlanta to find his wife Lori and son Carl because they have relatives there. Before he leaves he makes a pit stop at the police station to get guns for him and the Jones' and a car for him since the other two are staying behind. In Atlanta, Rick finds that everyone has turned and faces danger. He is saved by Glenn, one of the main survivors the show and books focus on, who helps him get to his camp. At the camp he finds Lori, Carl, and Shane. Rick and Shane fight over if the camp is safe or not, meanwhile Shane is planning to kill Rick so he can be with Lori. Shane leads Rick into the woods hoping to kill him. Because of spoilers I'm stopping here at the last bit of the first issue.
So far this is one of my favorite series. I started reading them after I watched the whole show so far in a month or two, and because my brother recommended it. I never really liked comic books so I was hesitant about reading these but so far I'm glad I read them. They are very good and you can never find a good place to stop with all the excitement and cliff hangers....more
