Percy looked amused.
“Both, on occasion.”
“Together?”
The smile widened. His teeth were still good, Grey saw, though somewhat stained by wine.
“Occasionally. Though Cecile—my wife—really prefers the attentions of her cousin Lucianne, and I myself prefer the attentions of the sub-gardener. Lovely man named Emile; he reminds me of you … in your younger years. Slender, blond, muscular, and brutal.”

“You won't cut my son's throat,' said the Unseelie King, gazing down at Julian with a look of disdain. 'You're a Shadowhunter. You have a code of honor.'
'You're thinking of Shadowhunters the way they used to be,' said Julian. 'I came of age in the Dark War. I was baptized in blood and fire.”

“Adaon seized up a number of swords. Jace held out his hand for one.
“Come to papa,” he crooned.
“I can’t believe you have a beard,” Emma noted, momentarily diverted.
Jace touched his bristly cheek. “Well, it has been a week, at least. I expect it makes me look manly, like a burnished god.”
“I hate it,” said Emma.
“I like it,” said Clary loyally.
“I don’t believe you,” said Emma. She stuck out her hand toward Adaon. “Give me my sword. Jace can use it to shave.”

“For my sake,” he said firmly, addressing the air in front of him as though it were a tribunal, “I dinna want ye to bear another child. I wouldna risk your loss, Sassenach,” he said, his voice suddenly husky. “Not for a dozen bairns. I’ve daughters and sons, nieces and nephews, grandchildren—weans enough.”
He looked at me directly then, and spoke softly.
“But I’ve no life but you, Claire.”
He swallowed audibly, and went on, eyes fixed on mine.
“I did think, though . . . if ye do want another child . . . perhaps I could still give ye one.”
