Herlong, in my opinion is quite a pageturner. i am starting to read the book, and the things explained at this point are just descriptions that help the reader give the background of the coming main event. even though the start is not so active or full of conflict, the author uses foreshadowing to make the reader keep on reading until he or she reaches the main event in the story, which in this case is when the Dad of 3 kids dissapears from a boat and leaves them alone at sea.up until the point i am reading in the book, i have no clue if the story is fiction or non-fiction, but i ama eager to find it out. second review: by now i have read a little more, and i am now on chapter 10. however, up until chapter 7 the narrator focuses specifically on the description of the boat, the conditions of it, all the elements that the Dad had bought fot it, their use, and the different types of issues that the kids had to deal with while being in the boat; which would be things like who sleeps were and how, the things each of them brought with them to spend the time. but more importantly, the narrator depicts the feelings that the kids have towards being in the boat for so long. for example the eldest called gerry, does not want to spend the summer at sea and wants to go home, but he is told that his home is now the sailboat. the narrator uses a lot of dialogue to express this. neverthe less the story starts to change in chapter 7 and on. it doesnt change much in the sense that the narrator still tries to show the reader the difficulties in the relationships of the brothers and dad. however, it changes quite a lot in the sense that now you see more navigational and sailing vocabulary, and you depict how the kids learn to sail and manuver the different parts of the boat. more to it you feel that during this time in the story there is an objective to reach Bimini, and island in the Bahamas. in chapter 9 they reach the island. but between this time there is always descriptions and dialogue of the happening events.
