Ultimately, this is a story of resilience. The protagonist, TV, is thrust into a purgatorial world full of incompetence, derangement, and poop goblins. (Perhaps a little too relatable given the state of things in the real world, if I'm honest...) And despite all of the crap thrown her way (both figurative and literal), she fights to pull through for the sake of the titular Dog.

The world, while kept compact for the sake of the story, is rich with lore and characters. And I mean CHARACTERS with a capital EVERYTHING. Every single one of them is memorable, whether due to their tragic/heartfelt backstories, the culminating moment of their arc, or their ability to get... stuff on the ceiling during certain physical activities. Memorable.

The standout characters are obviously TV and the dog, Piddles. I really love their dynamic and how they are able to learn and grow from each other. They each have their own perspective regarding how the world is/how it should be, and it makes for some super emotional moments when they're able to come to understandings with each other while still holding to their own personal beliefs and morals. I may have teared up at a few of those scenes. (And I am expecting to full-on cry when I read the finished version, ngl.) There's just something so real about the relationship between a lady and her dog...

There is quite a bit of potty humor in this book. But, as someone who normally doesn't care for that style of writing, it surprisingly didn't bother me. Some of the scenes (coughPeanutcough) made me laugh out loud in multiple instances. There's wit to the potty humor, which makes it tolerable if not flat-out enjoyable. And it definitely helps balance the story out with some of the harder hitting emotional beats. (Sometimes the humor was necessary to keep me from cryin' too much.)

Needless to say, I recommend this book. I've already recommended it to everyone I know. It's jumped onto my list of favorite books ever pretty darn fast.
