This is a very interesting read, based on a short memoir, about a young American doctor assigned to a triage unit in Belgium during the battle of the Bulge. When roads to the town of Bastogne are cut off, Dr Jack Prior find himself caring for injured soldiers with wounds beyond his medical training. Assisting Dr. Prior are 2 French nurses whose efforts to tend to the wounded earn them the title of the Angels of Bastogne. The chapters alternate between the war years and a reunion in Bastogne 50 years later. Other characters in the story, give you a sense of what it was like to be fighting on foreign soil and how the resident of Bastogne coped with the presence of the American soldiers and the concerns of the Germans my capture their town. Author, Glenn Ivers knew Dr. Prior during the later years of his life and his hometown of Syracuse, New York. This is a well thought out book of historical fiction with a lot of detail that requires the full attention of the reader.
