We try to find fulfillment in life through chasing lots of things: success, friends, sports, comfort, love, etc. This book is here to remind us that (1) we will never be fulfilled by these things and (2) they're eventually going to be gone anyway and so are we. Fun, right?

Ecclesiastes teaches us how to live a fulfilling life by looking ahead to our death. We can do this through following the script God has written for us, including living unselfishly, holding our possessions lightly, and enjoying life and the good things we have been given, while still understanding that those things could be taken from us. How do we react if/when that happens?

This is a phenomenal book. There is a lot to learn from this book even for a person who doesn't believe the Bible. If you believe in God and believe the words of the Bible are true, this book will hold even more weight.

Unfortunately, there were a couple structural things I didn't care for in this book. One, the author did not comment on significant phrases or verses in Ecclesiastes. Not sure if he just found them too challenging, or...? Two, the writing felt kind of scattered. When I was in college, my professor told us that when we wrote essays, it was supposed to be a "stream of consciousness" sort of thing without any real organization of ideas. That's what this book felt like at times. I like order.
