"I want to spill some thoughts on this as I read it.
The prose in this book is exactly like what I wrote when I was 20 and in my first undergraduate writing classes. Which is to say it's bad. It's just bad. But I think, indulging in a bit of ego, it shows promise. It's overwritten in the way that can be shaped, it can be carved down to something good, but this is very immature in a way that is very fun to me." — Jun 03, 2026 05:32PM

"Finally getting a sense that the text isn't interested only in how cool and awesome it is to be a holy warrior, so that's nice. Overall Part 2 was missing the character I like most, and is too interested in the incredibly slow origin of what are to be the coolest holy warriors of them all." — Feb 19, 2024 10:04PM

"Okay, now this thing is starting to speak. I've heard criticisms about the way Murakami writes female characters, and at least in this they appear to all be enigmas instead of people, but more and more it's becoming clear that it's the character's problem and not the author's, in this novel at least." — Feb 05, 2024 07:16PM
