WOW. Al fin terminé esta saga de dimensiones ÉPICAS. Literalmente se convirtió en una de las mejores sagas que leí en mi vida.

WOW. Al fin terminé esta saga de dimensiones ÉPICAS. Literalmente se convirtió en una de las mejores sagas que leí en mi vida.

En la útlima entrega de esta gloriosa saga, Vi deberá entregarse de lleno a los poderes que la diosa le confirió para intentar romper con el vortex en el que el mundo está atrapado hace milenios. Pero grandes hazañas requieren grandes sacrificios, y Vi deberá considerar si está dispuesta a perder a todos a quienes ama, e incluso sacrificar su propia humanidad, para salvar al mundo.

"All right, I see your logic. But if this doesn't work?"
"Then we force our way in with juth calt." Vi shrugged. "It’ll be louder and more chaotic. But we’re invisible, so we'll slip in through the fray."
"Tactful."
"We're in 'making this up as we go' territory, remember?"
"Unfortunately."

No tengo mucho más que decir salvo todas las alabanzas que le hice a esta saga en las reseñas de los libros anteriores. Y este en particular fue realmente épico. Todo llegó a su conclusión. Todo lo que pasó no solo en los cuatro libros anteriores, sino varios eventos misteriosos que ocurrieron a lo largo de Air Awakens e incluso en la precuela, The Golden Guard Trilogy, de golpe cobraron sentido. Esta saga viene a ser como el hilo rojo que marca el destino de estos personajes y que, si fuera un hilo físico, junta y une a todos los libros de este universo, explicando todo y ampliando el panorama enormemente. De golpe entendemos fuerzas sobrenaturales y eventos que estaban pasando de fondo mientras Vhalla y Aldrik luchaban por su amor y por el Imperio Solaris, e incluso antes, mientras se formaba la Golden Guard. Y Elise Kova ejecuta esto de forma majestuosa.

"We'll have to leave her side, soon." Taavin didn't mince words. "Aldrik will sustain his injury soon."
"Yes, the one that brings him to Vhalla. Because nothing says 'fall for me' like being wounded and helpless," Deneya said dryly.

Creo que quedó claro que me volaron totalmente la cabeza las escenas en las que Vi se cruzaba con personajes de Air Awakens. Poder leer estas escenas desde su perspectiva y entender lo que realmente estaba pasando me encantó. O sea, quiero que quede claro el nivel de planificación y detalle que tuvo Elise al escribir trece (TRECE!!!!) libros que estén todos conectados entre sí y que se entiendan y converjan perfectamente. Es una locura. De verdad no entiendo cómo es que Elise no es una autora más conocida, se merece todo el éxito y reconocimiento del mundo. Ojalá algún día, si leyeron alguna de mis reseñas de sus libros, decidan darle una oportunidad. Créanme que no se van a arrepentir.

PERO BUENO. Suficiente charla sobre la saga en general. Pasemos a hablar sobre Crystal Caged. Como ya dije arriba, me pareció épico (sí, voy a usar mil veces esa palabra porque es la que mejor describe a este libro). Disfruté muchísimo leer sobre las hazañas del trío conformado por Deneya, Vi, y Taavin a lo largo de todos los años que les llevó orquestrar los eventos que llevaron al gran descenlace.

"I would rather live one life with them than an eternity without."

Hablando de este trío, amé totalmente a todos los personajes. Me gustó que Taavin finalmente dejara de ser tan insistente en hacer todo a su manera y confiara más en Vi. Además, su romance es todo lo que está bien, y sus (pocas pero hermosas) escenas románticas fueron bellísimas, y las últimas me emocionaron hasta el punto de las lágrimas. Por otro lado, Deneya es el comedic relief que le aportó ligereza y dinamismo a una historia que quizás, de no ser por ella, hubiera sido más densa y pesada. Es un personaje genial, y espero que sigamos viendo más de ella en la próxima saga de este universo, A Trial of Sorcerers!

Y no puedo dejar de hablar de Vi, la protagonista de todo esto que, como en una la llama la autora, es the unseen hand of the Solaris Empire. Es increíble todo el camino por el que tuvo que atravesar a lo largo de los libros, y cómo pasó de ser una princesa algo consentida a ser literalmente la campeona de una Diosa, destinada a salvar al mundo. El desarrollo que tiene es increíble, y creo que su arco del "camino del héroe" fue uno de los mejores que leí en mi vida. Es inimaginable todo lo que tuvo que atravesar, todas las decisiones que tuvo que tomar, las personas que perdió, y todo el tiempo que le dedicó a su tarea de romper el vortex. La terminé admirando muchísimo, sobre todo porque, a pesar de todo esto, siempre trató de aferrarse a su humanidad y a las personas que ama. También espero que veamos más de ella y de Taavin en Trial!

Otras cosas que amé fue que volvieron a aparecer personajes que habían estado en libros anteriores de la saga pero que luego no volvieron a mencionarse hasta este libro. Fue lindo volver a verlos a todos una última vez, y que no hayan quedado en el olvido! También me encantó, como siempre en estos libros, todo el sistema de magia. Las nuevas formas de manipular la magia, los cristales, y la esencia de Yargen en este libro fueron maravillosas, recordándome por qué amo tanto la fantasía.

"If we truly succeed in seeing this world continue on... No more war for this continent," Vi whispered into the cool night air, speaking more to Yargen than Taavin. "Too much has been lost on this earth already."

El único motivo por el cual no pude ponerle 5 estrellas fue porque me pareció que la escena en la cual Yargen se enfrenta a Raspian fue demasiado breve y fácil. Esta escena se supone que debería ser LA escena más importante de toda la saga, ya que es el evento en el cual los cinco libros desembocan. Me esperaba una batalla feroz, de proporciones épicas dada su importancia y la magnitud de los dos dioses que se enfrentaban... pero en vez de eso me encontré con una pelea que duró menos de un capítulo, y que la verdad se sintió demasiado sencilla de ganar. Sí me gustaron todas las descripciones de lo que pasaba en el campo de batalla y de cómo se comunicaban Yargen y Vi, pero la batalla en sí me decepcionó.

The world spun, seasons changed, and people changed, but the one constant thing remained: love—the love of friends and family, the love that bound people together through the ages.

En fin, creo que no tengo nada más que agregar ~~léase: me callo porque sino voy a seguir hablando sobre Elise y lo geniales que son sus libros por veinte párrafos más~~. Crystal Caged es el desenlace perfecto para una saga que combina lo mejor de la fantasía juvenil (magia, poderes, amor, tierras lejanas con lore y magia desconocida, traiciones, aventura, amistad, destino, dioses poderosos) en una historia llena de giros y bucles temporales que nuestra heroína deberá desatar para poder salvar al mundo y a todos aquellos que ama. Lo vuelvo a decir, me saco el sombrero frente a Elise Kova, una de mis autoras favoritas, quien estuvo años y años escribiendo y publicando libros que crearon un universo complejo y maravilloso sobre el cual no quiero dejar de leer nunca. Yargen bless these books.
