"Love this book, but i need to read it slowly, one poem at a time. The author writes an essay on each poem about the background of the poet and his own experiences trading then. He gives a lot of insight i wouldn't have caught and is helping me understand and enjoy poetry much more." May 22, 2026 12:08PM

Bess Streeter Aldrich
“You know, Grace, it's queer but I don't feel narrow. I feel broad. How can I explain it to you, so you would understand? I've seen everything...and I've hardly been away from this yard....
I've been part of the beginning and part of the growth. I've married...and borne children and looked into the face of death. Is childbirth narrow, Grace? Or marriage? Or death? When you've experienced all those things, Grace, the spirit has traveled although the body has been confined. I think travel is a rare privilege and I'm glad you can have it. But not every one who stays at home is narrow and not every one who travels is broad. I think if you can understand humanity...can sympathize with every creature...can put yourself into the personality of every one...you're not narrow...you're broad.”
Bess Streeter Aldrich, A Lantern in Her Hand

“never argue with a fool because the people who are watching can’t tell the difference.”
Bakari Sellers, Country: A Memoir

Khaled Hosseini
“J’aurais dû être plus gentille—I should have been more kind. That is something a person will never regret. You will never say to yourself when you are old, Ah, I wish I was not good to that person. You will never think that.”
Khaled Hosseini, And the Mountains Echoed

Sara Baume
“Life never misses an opportunity to upscuttle us, I think. Life likes to tell us it told us so.”
Sara Baume, Spill Simmer Falter Wither

A.A. Milne
“What day is it?” asked Pooh.
“It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.
“My favorite day,” said Pooh.”
A.A. Milne
