I loved this book about a Vietnam soldier who meets a high school boy and confides in him while working on construction jobs. This boy grows up to be a father of a son, and passes on the knowledge handed to him from the soldier. Written from three viewpoints Dugoni weaves together a memorable story. The first hand accounts of life in Vietnam written in a diary format were so vivid. Lessons are in front of us every day. It’s a matter of paying attention to them.
“learn just one thing from his death, if you learn that life is fragile at any age, and that every day is a gift. His death won’t be for nothing if you learn to celebrate each morning that you wake, take a breath, and realize you’re still alive and the day is filled with endless potential.”
