The way this book makes me feel, makes me want to rethink all of the 5 star reads that I've read in the last year. This gave me the same level of feelings as Six of Crows, as ACOMAF, as Addie LaRue, all the books I've loved before. I absolutely adore Violet, I hated Dain and I swooned over Xaden. I am so so lost after finishing this book, it's crazy how much these stories can impact us.

I saw this on Bookstagram and just saw the hype for it and I was honestly terrified, because I love dragons and fantasy and it seemed like exactly my thing, but I thought perhaps it would be overhyped or I wouldn't like it as much as other people (as so often happens with viral books). I was pleasantly surprised though - how fucking good.

Violet is the daughter of a scribe and a dragon-rider, and was trained to enter the Scribe Quadrant, until her father died, and now her mother is forcing her into the Rider Quadrant - which means she has to attend the Basgiath War College, where everyone will want to kill her for being the weakest link. We meet Xaden Riorson, who is sexy as hell and Violet's enemies to lovers arc (don't pretend that's a spoiler... we all know it's coming from the first look at him). Hot as hell but also dangerous as hell, Xaden becomes Violet's Wing Leader. We also have Dain who is a pain in the ass from the very first minute we meet him. Dain and Xaden are polar opposites: Dain wants Violet to be safe but he also wouldn't break a rule for her, whereas Xaden is the morally grey, beautiful, rule-breaker who will do anything for Violet (except tell her his feelings). Love this so much. Love all the twists and turns and I love all the badass women in this story (Mira & Rhiannon, Violet & Imogen & all the other badass dragon-riders).

I honestly don't know what to do with myself, so I'm trying to get this out so I can think clearly. Please help.

The only thing I couldn't stand was that Xaden always calls Violet "Violence" even when he's trying to win her over ???? STOP please use her name. (The more I sit with this book the more I don't care about him calling her Violence :') ...more "
