Jesus lived that motto while He walked the earth, as Deborah Anfenson-Vance notes, Maybe the biggest change in heaven won’t be in the place but in us and our ability to relate positively to the people and things around us. Maybe one of the most surprising things we can know about heaven is that it starts here, within us. I used to think Jesus was so narrow, precise, and strict that I’d have to limit myself severely enough to please Him. Now I realize Jesus has been limiting Himself for my sake—making Himself human, reachable, small enough not to frighten me off. And all the while He’s slowly, carefully pulling back the curtain, telling me, “It’s all bigger than you think. I am bigger than you think. More broad-thinking. More open to variety and differences. More surprising.”
