The book was hard to follow; one section of the book would be about the main character, and then they would talk about what her brother is doing and not even mention her for over 100 pages. This was hard for me to remember what she was doing when it started again. I did like this book because there was a lot going on so I didn’t find myself bored. But I did find that compared to the movie the book focused a lot more on the alien aspect of the story. Yes the movie did cover that as well since that is what the book was about but I felt it was really highlighted in the book. The movie has just enough love story in it that it doesn’t have to be in the sci-fi genre. It is in that genre but it is also a romance. I felt the book covered it for a long time without actually showing us the romance between them. The movie showed us the love that Cassie and Evan had for eachother. While showcasing the real conflict that was there. He is an “other” but he loves her and would do anything for her. I think that The Fifth Wave really could have been cut down. The book was around 500 pages which I would say is pretty normal for a book but it could have been much smaller. From my perspective there was too much detail during the physical violence. But this is just my opinion. I understand that many other people would like this kind of thing, but I am a 16 year old girl that was more interested in the romance and how they were going to overcome the apocalypse. I can see why other people would enjoy the fighting and all of the violence being deeply described but I felt like it was a little bit over done. I did feel like I could relate to the main character in the book, Cassie Sullivan. She’s a 16 year old girl just like me. The old Cassie (before the apocalypse) was a lot like me. She was just an average girl with an average family. She had typical teenage girl problems with friends, family and boys. New Cassie is a strong and independent woman, and I like to think if I was faced with a hard problem I wouldn’t give up, I would be just like Cassie. The most interesting parts in the book were at the beginning when she was describing the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th wave.
All in all the plot and the ideas for this book were amazing. I constantly have so many questions, and it just keeps me intrigued the whole time I’m reading. I will for sure be reading the next book in The Fifth Wave series. ...more "
