When it comes to fairytale retellings, I am an absolute whore for Hook and Wendy love stories. This was my first official publication reading of the pair, and when discovering this was an erotica, I was over the moon. I'll begin the review off by saying that if you want a steamy, dark romance with that bit of steam, this is a wonderful recommendation. The sex scenes were hot, but where the book marveled in sexual sequences, it lacked severely in execution of writing action and even character development and exploration.

This book was fast paced. I sped through the first half and fell in love with that pacing in that time frame, but where we reached the end everything felt like simplified writing. There was no depth or explanation, no further connection or anything notable, just...blah. The ending - the epilouge especially - was incredibly rushed. Almost like the writer had a hangover from such a banger buildup. Which was disappointing. To add on to that, the side characters were exceptionally bland, with me only feeling a twinge of something for Ru. Jon, Angie, Peter...they were all just...there. I felt nearly nothing for any of them. Show some love to your side characters!

What I absolutely adored was McIntire's originality with incorporating the original elements of the classic Peter Pan and shaping them in Hooked. Making Wendy and Peter's last name Michaels and having James' PTSD centered around the clock was something never embraced before. References also being Easter egged left and right. That I loved.

I also enjoyed the tension between James and Wendy, with all their adorable banter as they fell in love, but found their romance to be incredibly insta-lovey and falsely marketed. I felt that this wasn't enemies to lovers.

What truly ruined me possibly loving the book was James and Jon being...the ICK...brothers. That's all types of odd, fucked up and weird. This was only acknowledged in the book as "weird" by Hook, as if he wasn't married to his own brother's sister. Like...okay? Yes you can draw the fine line and say that they aren't the ones that are related, but was there ANY acknowledgement by the characters of deep diving into these emotions? No. Another example of sloppy writing which helped to deteriorate my opinion.

However, I did enjoy this story. It was a quick read and did give me some butterflies.
