I think I finally understand. “You don’t stop loving someone just because they hurt you,” he said. “It would certainly make things easier if you did.” She started to sniffle again, and he put a fatherly arm around her. She pulled close, trying to use his warmth to push away the pain. “I loved him, Kelsier,” she whispered. “Elend? I know.”
