She told me it took her 35 years to "claw her way back to the UP." She must be pretty smart cos it took me 44.

I've been reading this book as I have been tent camping on our family land NW of Marquette since July 8, 2022. My Great Pyrenees will have to leave soon because of the snow.

But what's most interesting about this story is that I went to Snowbound Books here in MQT that Friday and searched for the book. But they didn't have any in stock. So I had them order one, only to have them call me an hour later and say that someone had just brought in a copy, in mint condition and signed by Ellen Airgood.

In much the same way as the book, I came to the UP to get away from the complications of urban life. I saw one highlighted reviewer tear the book apart as unbelievable. But between me, Madeline in the story, and the woman with the shiny black stone on her ring finger, (how many of those can there be in the UP?) there are three stories about doing just what you say is unbelievable.

I, too, am writing a book about living in the UP. Hopefully, you et al. won't be so pessimistic about the premise of the story.

South of Superior is a good story and well-told. As far as the Hero's Journey goes, it races through many steps in the first chapter. It's a prologue that isn't quite a prologue. Maybe a little more meat on the bone there would have had fewer people expressing their doubts.

Could the story happen? You bet it could. Did you read what Ellen Airgood wrote about living in the UP and her own story?

Thanks for the story Ellen Airgood. And do I ever hope to find my muse, the woman with the shiny black stone, black converse shoes, and smiling eyes who told me about this book in the first place.
