“The past, in our remembering of it, is more beautiful than the present, as is the future in our imagining of it. Why? Because the present alone has its true form in human conception. It is the only image of truth, and everything true is ugly.”
― Giacomo Leopardi

“nside the church, the saints will be all blue,
Floating on their delicate feet over cold pews,
Their hands and faces stiff with holiness.
The moon sees nothing of this. She is bald and wild.
And the message of the yew tree is blackness –
blackness and silence.”
― Sylvia Plath

“So when we are unhappy we feel the unhappiness of others more; feeling is not destroyed but concentrated.”
― Fyodor Dostoevsky

“When someone sleeps they become a child again, perhaps because in sleep one can do no evil and one is unaware even of ones own existence. By some natural magic, the worst criminal, the most inveterate egotist, is made sacred by sleep. I can see no perceptible difference between killing a child and killing someone while they sleep.”
― Fernando Pessoa
