Although I have not read very much, I know that the author is displaying the message that "After you've had it, there isn't even life without drugs." Alice's diary was made public for the purpose of to encouraging adolescents to stay away from drugs. He wanders off and does new things to find a place in the world. The problem is that Charlie seeks to know "what is wrong with him."
